Hurricane-turned-tropical-storm Lane has left the islands! The slow moving category 5 hurricane was downgraded to a tropical storm by the time it was passing by the Hawaiian islands. However, because it traveled at 5-8 miles per hour the weather on Maui was wet, windy, and unpredictable for a week straight.
Nowadays the skies look like the picture above! It’s gorgeous here today! The downed power lines are repaired, the roads are all open, the shoreline waters are clear, and the vast open fields and pastures are bright green!
Kihei Rent A Car was prepared for Lane. The windows were boarded up, and the generator, flashlights and emergency supplies were brought out. Fans were placed strategically around the office, an emergency plan was made to move the fleet if flooding happened, and each bathroom had a bucket of water and a battery operated lantern. The mechanics even used tow straps to strap down the solar panels using the old shuttle vans as weights!
The whole car rental team pitched in to prepare. And then we waited. And waited. And waited. And thank goodness Lane did not land on the island in full force!
Maui is home to 6 of the world’s 14 climate zones. So, depending on where on the island you were during our recent storm, your experience was different from somewhere else on the island. Down pours, wind storms, sunshine, and big surf. We had it all!
